Sania Mirza is proud of hubby Shoaib Malik’s achievement
Malik is currently playing the T20I tri-series in Zimbabwe.
The Pakistan team is playing Zimbabwe and Australia in a T20I tri-series in the African nation. They entered the series as the No.1 ranked side in the format and were expected to win it against two depleted sides. Pakistan got off to a winning start against the hosts and all-rounder Shoaib Malik played a knock of unbeaten 37 to help his side post a formidable total that was well beyond Zimbabwe’s reach.
During his effort, Malik also achieved a significant feat. He became the first Pakistan player and the third overall to score 2000 runs in T20I cricket. The Men in Green were clinical in all three departments and didn’t let Zimbabwe have an inch of ground. As a result, they won the game comprehensively by 74 runs. After their win along with all the cricketers and others from the fraternity Malik’s better half also tweeted to congratulate him.
Sania Miraz quoted ICC’s tweet that announced Malik’s achievement. She wrote- “Yeah man #Champ #proud @realshoaibmalik”
In the second match of the tournament, he also completed his 100 T20I appearances in the green jersey. It was not a memorable one for him as Pakistan lost the game to Australia by 9 wickets.
Malik to call it time
Prior to the start of the series, the 36-year-old cricketer who is an important cog in the national team for both the limited-overs formats made an announcement with regards to his retirement. He clarified his intentions of hanging up his boots from One-Day International cricket after the end of the World Cup 2019.
“The 2019 World Cup is my last event of the 50-over cricket. I will try to play T20 cricket if I continue to stay fit and put up performances,” Malik was quoted as saying in the media.
“I have set goals for myself and one of them is winning the World Cup 2019. I already have two major cricketing titles in my career, the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy, and now this is the only title left,” he said.
