Sanjay Bangar appointed as India batting coach for West Indies tour

Former India all-rounder Sanjay Bangar, former Railways and Delhi wicket-keeper batsman Abhay Sharma were appointed as support staff to the head coach Anil Kumble for the upcoming tour of West Indies, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Saturday.
A BCCI press release stated, “In consultation with Mr. Anil Kumble, Head Coach, Indian Cricket Team, the BCCI has appointed the following assistant coaches for the India tour of West Indies, 2016 -Assistant Coach (Batting) – Mr. Sanjay Bangar, Assistant Coach (Fielding) – Mr. Abhay Sharma.”

Sanjay Bangar was the interim batting coach of the Indian team that recently won the ODI and T20I series in Zimbabwe. Bangar had previously worked with the Indian team as the batting coach when Ravi Shastri was the team director before their contracts ended with the World T20 in 2016.
Abhay Sharma who traveled to Zimbabwe as the fielding coach has also been retained for the Carribean series. Abhay has previously worked as a fielding coach with U-19, India ‘A’ and Rest of India.

The Virat Kohli-led side will tour the West Indies for seven weeks, starting from July 9, for four Tests and two practice matches. The tour will start with a two-day practice match from July 9 at Warner Park, St Kitts followed by a three-day warm-up match from July 14 at the same venue. The first Test will begin on July 21 at Antigua, the second on July 30 in Jamaica, the third on August 9 in St Lucia, the fourth and final one on August 18 in Trinidad.
