India’s 17-man squad is taking part in the preparatory camp at National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru ahead of the tour of West Indies. Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan hasn’t in the best of forms for the last one year across formats which has been a concern for the team management.

While Dhawan was practicing at NCA, batting coach Sanjay Bangar placed the fourth stump, a foot outside his off-stump to fix the areas of concern in his technique including his feet movement. His foot movement proved to be a major cause of concern for the left-hander in India’s tour of New Zealand in 2014. However, he adjusted it in the later stages of the series and played some brilliant knocks.

After facing few deliveries, Dhawan walked towards Bangar and had a small chat with him about the backlift and his wrist position along with the stance. ESPNCricinfo reported that, while returning back, Dhawan looked back at the group of journalists and quipped, “Learning the basics.”

After the practice session, he spoke about the fourth stump practice and also said that the open net session helped him to get a practical feeling of the match. “The open net session was nice, it was like getting a practical feel of the match ahead of going for an important series. The feel of open nets is much better, you feel the pressure as well because of the slips, so it makes it better for a batsman.”

Talking about the technical deficiencies, Dhawan said, “I have always worked hard, but whenever I feel I need to change something or include something in my game, I work on it.” The dashing Indian batsman also spoke about the fourth stump mystery and how it helped him. The idea behind batting with a fourth stump was to work on my backlift and hopefully, it will benefit me,” he concluded.
