Team India’s exceptional journey in the 2017 Women’s World Cup could not end on a high. The valiant warriors lost the final battle to the hosts England at Lords on Sunday. While the Indians batting order looked firm on chasing down the total at one point of time, wickets fell like a pack of cards in the later stages.
However, instead of cheering up the team for their brilliant efforts in the tournament, former international and active commentator Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out the flaws in the team in a tweet of his. The 52-year-old mentioned that he was expecting a better start from skipper Mithali Raj whereas Harmanpreet Kaur should have concentrated on rotating the strike rather than going for the big ones. Manjrekar also criticised Veda Krishnamurthy for not keeping calm and losing his nerves.
The tweet did not go down well with the Twitterati and Manjrekar was slammed on the social media platform. Manjrekar, who has been a frequently trolled personality on Twitter for his baseless commentary faced another round of bashing from the fans. While some people highlighted his struggle as a cricketer, some pointed out that he is the worst commentator the world has ever seen. People advised the retired international to be proud of the girls instead of making their mistakes.
If only Mithali had taken a better start, if only Harmanpreet had focussed more on 1s & 2s, if only Veda was not in such hurry….if only ?

The final:
Batting first, the hosts were not particularly brilliant with the bat as they managed to put up a total of 228 runs which was a very chasable one. Natalie Sciver, who has been exceptional in the tournament, top scored with 51 runs for the three lions. Coming onto chase the target, the Indians looked pretty solid and the World Cup looked in their grasp. But in an amazing turn around of events, the Indian batting line up was ripped apart like a pod of peas by the English bowlers in the later stages which saw them get bundled out for 219.
Here is how Twitterati lashed out at Sanjay Manjrekar
