Sanjay Manjrekar has a solution to Sri Lanka's 'brain-fade' in Kolkata

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has said that he supports batsmen taking assistance from dressing room in case they have doubts while calling for a review. The Indian commentator’s concern came after Sri Lanka batsman Dilruwan Perera was spotted on the camera looking at the Sri Lankan dressing room before he asked for a review to overturn an LBW decision by the on-field umpire Nigel Llong during the 4th day’s play at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Manjrekar feels that rules should be fair and equal for both the sides. He said that there were some indications towards the dressing room from the Sri Lankan batsman before going for the review. He feels that the batting side should be allotted a 15 seconds time to discuss and take the call.

“What we saw on TV, it gave a feel that there was some indication from the dressing room to go for DRS (Decision Review System). But obviously, there is no proof of that,” he said.

Urging to make it even for both batting and bowling side, he said “But going forward I feel rules need to be looked at and if needed they should be changed. I think if you are a batting side and within 15 seconds if a batsman wants to look towards dressing room to get some clue, that shouldn’t be a big deal.

“A fielding side has 11 players and they can have a word with each other before going for a review. Rules should be fair for both teams,” Majrekar added. The 52-year-old said that the bottom line is to get the right decisions. “The whole idea is to get as many decisions right. Currently, it’s (batsmen looking at dressing room for clue) not allowed but they (ICC) should look at it,” he said.
