Virat Kohli has a well documented horrendous record against James Anderson. His woes came to it’s zenith in the 2014 tour where Kohli was made Anderson’s bunny, so to speak. However, despite this, Sanjay Manjrekar, the former India batsman, and commentator has come out and stated that even if Stuart Broad has picked all of India’s wickets, James Anderson will indeed come on to bowl against the skipper.

“The moment Virat Kohli comes in and no matter if Broad has got three wickets in the last over, they will give the ball to Jimmy Anderson. Because with a great batsman, you need to get them out early and they try to revive all his nightmares for his last trip in 2014,” said Manjrekar told ESPN Cricinfo.

Manjrekar went on to add that the field will also be set in such a way that Anderson will be trying to get the nick from Kohli’s bat. “The field will also be an elaborate one with maybe two or even three slips and a gully and also take men out and place in the covers and entice him to play those cover drives which is a dangerous shot at the start of the innings especially in England. I can actually see Jimmy Anderson not giving a single ball to Virat Kohli to play bat and ball.”

‘Kohli would have to leave all those balls’

However, speaking about the same, the commentator went on to add that Kohli would have little or no choice but to leave those deliveries and play the patience game.

“Those deliveries are expected to be all outside the off stumps and Kohli will have no choice but to leave all those balls unless of course, he plays the square drive which is a safer option. But Virat Kohli, he loves to play the cover drive and it is a risky option,” Manjrekar added.
