The recently-concluded Ranji Trophy finals witnessed much drama as Vidarbha produced a brilliant all-round show against seven-time champions Delhi in the final to clinch their maiden Ranji title. Vidarbha were set a target of 29 runs to clinch their title after Delhi were bundled out for just 280 in their second innings. Vidarbha chased down the target with comfortable ease despite losing skipper Faiz Fazal early in their second innings.
Interestingly, it was two Mumbai stalwarts who played a clinical role in Vidarbha’s maiden victory- coach Chandrakant Pandit and opener Wasim Jaffer. And the fact was acknowledged by former India and Mumbai cricketer, Sanjay Majrekar.
Following Vidarbha’s victory, Manjrekar tweeted to take a subtle dig at the rivals, who won on the back of two Mumbaikars. He wrote, “And yes, Vidarbha, don’t mention it. You are most welcome* *Two Mumbai stalwarts in the squad.”

*Two Mumbai stalwarts in the squad.?

However, the reactions which followed were stern answers to Manjrekars’s accusations. While some were nothing short of hilarious, others put logic to point out where Manjrekar went wrong.
Here are some of the reactions:
Those are professionals same like you. I hope while commentry u praise everyone the same.. also this shows Mumbai cricket is losing its talent management skills which vidarbha has got. Hope u understand what I want to say. #RanjiTrophy2017

I can see the light side of this tweet. Just a quick question, how did #Vidarbha managed to win #RanjiTrophy2017 with 2 Mumbai stalwarts, but Mumbai themselves didn't manage to pull it off with their entire squad of mumbaikars? ????

Undoubtedly much of the team’s success is owed to the Mumbaikar Chandrakant Pandit. Pandit’s advent infused a rejuvenated energy in the dressing rooms that helped change the mindset of the players. He brought them out of their comfort zones and nobody complained. They embraced the change with a positive mindset.
The other Mumbai lad who played a clinical role in the victory was experienced domestic star, Wasim Jaffer. The 39-year-old opener hit the winning runs for Vidarbha as he won the Ranji Trophy for the ninth time in his career. Jaffer kept his invincible record going as he has now featured in nine Ranji finals and has managed to come out victorious in all of them.
The Ranji winners will now play the Irani Trophy, where they will take on the Rest of India side. Vidarbha skipper Faiz Fazal looks upbeat with the upcoming challenge and want his boys to bag a double by winning the Irani Trophy.
