Sanju Samson’s career has been a witness to a roller coaster ride. He was a part of the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season. He commenced the tournament with a few delightful knocks which helped his team to glory. In the latter half of the event, he couldn’t display the form he presented in the first few contests and thus the Royals struggled with the middle-order.
He was selected in the India A squad for their ongoing tour of England. However, fate wasn’t quite kind enough on the wicketkeeper-batsman from Kerala. He failed in the yo-yo test and was subsequently left out of the team. Previously, the fitness test was made compulsory by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which has led to the eviction of many players from even the senior team.
Samson’s stop-start career
Samson has played only a solitary T20I that was three years ago versus Zimbabwe but has not been able to stake his claim back in the national team. He is currently in Bangalore and met the former Indian captain and the man who holds the position of wicketkeeper-batsman in the limited-overs team, MS Dhoni. At 36, he is still an epitome of fitness in Indian cricket. He doesn’t boast of a chiselled body, however, ensures that he stays fit enough to deliver the goods for his team.
The veteran is amongst the fittest members of the team. His running between the wickets has caught the eyeballs over the years and he has only grown in stature, both as an individual and as an indefatigable servant of the Men in Blue.
He is scheduled to play next in the two T20Is against Ireland which gets underway in one week’s time. Meanwhile, Samson is over the moon upon meeting the veteran. The youngster took to social media and wrote “Wooowwww… I hope you all know how does it feels like to meet your Hero… #msd”
