Sanju Samson is one of India’s most sparkling young talents in the domestic circuit. He has impressed one and all with his flair, finesse and most importantly, a calm and collected approach. While he is a dexterous wicket-keeper, he can gracefully cream the ball across the carpet. The Trivandrum-born wicket-keeper batsman had a base price of 100 Lakhs in the ongoing Indian Premier League Auction.
Teams went hammer and tongs for the Indian wicket-keeper and he was eventually snapped by the Rajasthan Royals for a whopping eight crores. Meanwhile, he also emerged as the third most profitable Indian cricketer for the day after Manish Pandey and KL Rahul. After the lucrative deal, Samson talked to CricTracker and said, “I’m very excited and happy to get back to Rajasthan Royals.”
“I started as a kid in Rajasthan Royals when I was 18 and I had teammates like Ajinkya Rahane and Steve Smith. Now they are legends and I’m still playing and I just want to get back and learn a lot from them. I am also very excited to get back to Jaipur, be involved in that beautiful atmosphere created by Rajasthan Royals. Also, I thank each and everyone who helped me get back to Rajasthan Royals,” Samson said.
IPL Journey for Samson
Samson started his Indian Premier League stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders, but couldn’t get an opportunity. Rajasthan Royal’s penchant for Indian domestic cricketers ensured that Samson was drafted into the squad. He performed expertly with the willow and hogged the limelight with his effortless display of stroke-play.
However, after Rajasthan’s two-year suspension following match-fixing scandals in 2015, Samson was listed for the auctions of the 2017 season. He was subsequently bagged by the Delhi Daredevils where he played a couple of seasons. The wicket-keeper batsman played some scintillating knocks for his franchises and impressed one and all.
However, during the IPL retentions in early December 2017, he was overlooked by the team-management and he wasn’t a part of the three retained players by the Daredevils. However, Rajasthan would be happy to get back the services of Sanju Samson. Samson has played a solitary T20 International for India against Zimbabwe back in 2015.
However, due to inconsistent performances and injuries, he went out of contention. Nevertheless, he has every chance of ringing the bells in the Indian team management provided he manages to string together some impressive performances for the Rajasthan Royals.
