Sanju Samson fails Yo-Yo Test, replacement announced
Samson played for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2018.
The India A team is scheduled to tour England this month for playing two four-day matches and a triangular One Day series versus the England Lions and the Windies A. They announced a 16-man squad for the series, which included several bright talents. The Board of Cricket for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made the yo-yo fitness mandatory for any player in order to stay put in his position in the Indian team.
Sanju Samson was among the prolific run scorers in the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing the Rajasthan Royals (RR). However, the Trivandrum-born wicketkeeper-batsman has recently been ruled out of the One Day squad. He failed to pass the fitness test owing to which he couldn’t warrant a place in the team. Ishan Kishan, the 19-year-old prodigy, has been announced as his replacement.
Kishan’s justified selection
Kishan’s inclusion is well and truly justified owing to the form he showed during this year’s IPL. He was roped in by the Mumbai Indians after a successful stint with the Gujarat Lions last year. He started the tournament with some blistering knocks but lost his form midway. To add to his woes, he suffered an injury beneath the eye because of a throw which bounced awkwardly from the turf.
Subsequently, he was ruled out for a few contests. Nevertheless, he came back and churned out some match-winning knocks for his franchise. The 2018 IPL came to a close last month and several impressive performers were drafted in the A team to hone their skills under taxing conditions in England.
Shreyas Iyer impressed as the leader in the latter half of the T20 event as has been entrusted to captain the A team. Rishabh Pant, who was Delhi Daredevils’ leading run scorer in the series, also found a place in the squad. Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill, the U19 stars, have also been rewarded for their stupendous run of form.
