Former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop revealed his disappointment over the Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson wasting yet another good opportunity to play a big knock. Samson has accumulated 228 runs this season in eight games and he hasn’t been consistent enough to make a statement for the Indian team selection. With a lot of wicketkeepers in the contention for the Indian team, it will be tough for Samson to make it to the T20 World Cup unless he pulls one out of the box.
The right-hander played a handy knock against the Delhi Capitals with an unbeaten 46 to finish the innings for his side but missed out on a good chance against RCB when he had a lot more overs to stack up the runs on a tough wicket. Instead, Samson after a quickfire 21 ball 27, was bowled by Wanindu Hasaranga as the former went for a big shot.
Sanju Samson wasting good form by shot selection: Ian Bishop
Bishop noted that Samson had the chance to make a press for an international recall and felt that Samson had led down himself despite getting the chance when Rajasthan Royals were in a spot of bother. He added that Samson has looked in good touch but noted how the 27-year-old failed to read the match situation and fell down against Hasaranga. He added that he has been a follower of Samson for years now and felt that poor shot selection might hamper his chances.
“That Sanju is wasting good form and good opportunity to score runs to press for an international recall, to lead his team when Jos Buttler doesn’t score,” Bishop said on ESPNcricinfo’s ‘T20 Time Out’.
“It’s not that Sanju’s out of form. But that’s a match-up with Wanindu Hasaranga and him, and he should have known better. He got out of the blocks quite nicely. I’m a Sanju Samson fan, been that way for years now, (but) he’s wasting good form by the shot selection,” he added.
