Sanju Samson requests people to lend their helping hands to Kerala Flood victims

The situation in Kerala has been no less than abject owing the floods which have unfolded mayhem. The rainfall was expected to be 244.1 mm, but the same has been 619.5 mm and heavy rains are speculated to continue for the next two days. The death toll has reached 187 since August 9 and Narendra Modi, the Honourable Prime Minister of India, announced a relief of 500 crore for the state.

Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala, has described it as the worst in the state’s history. Recently, Sanju Samson, the Indian cricketer who also hails from Kerala, made a donation of Rs 15 lakhs towards Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. Samson Vishwanadh, his father, and Saly Samson, his brother, met CM Vijayan and handed over the cheque to him.

I do charity without letting the world know

Samson, who represented the Rajasthan Royals in the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), requested his countrymen to make contributions surrounding the grave issue while promising to try his heart out himself. The 23-year-old also mentioned that he donated the amount to genuinely help people out and not for garnering publicity.

“It’s time for everyone to join hands and make whatever contribution they can to help those affected by the flood. I feel it’s my duty to promote the message of relief work. I hope people will come forward and help the government and those in need,” Samson was quoted as saying in an exclusive interview with Khaleej Times.

“This is not for publicity. I do charity without letting the world know. Now, it’s the time to raise some awareness on the importance of making donation to the flood relief fund and people like me have to do it and let know the public. I think my action will prompt several other people to come forward and support the flood-hit people,” he added.
