Saqlain Mushtaq delighted to meet 'Mr. Cool Calm and Collected'

Cricket is a sport of stamina, resilience, and temperament. It’s as much a physical game as it is physiological. Apart from the battle between the bat and ball, mind games are also being played in order to get under the skins of the opposition. In a generation of slam-bang cricket, players try to tread the attacking route and get the rivals on their knees, Rahul Dravid’s antics were a tad different though.

His strategy was clear-cut- play on the bowler’s patience and tire them out. He is known as ‘The Wall’ and at no point of his career, did it seem as if his reputation was at stake. His defense was hard to breach, which can be comprehended from the statistics that he has played the most number of deliveries in Test cricket, 31,258 in 286 innings, the most by any batsman till date.

Unflappable Dravid

Bowlers ran in to ruffle his feathers, but they had to return with disappointment, on most times. They probed away at nagging line and lengths, over after over, in a hope that Rahul Dravid would commit a mistake. However, the error hardly came and the pacers and spinners were forced to experiment and bowl to the legendary Indian batsman’s strength.

He was often deemed to be way too slow for ODI cricket, yet he features on the elite list of batters with over 10,000 runs in the format with as many as 83 half-centuries. He even went on to play in the much-hyped Indian Premier League. Recently, Saqlain Mushtaq, the former Pakistani off-break bowler met him. The tweaker dismissed Rahul Dravid three times in Test cricket.

He was ecstatic to meet one of India’s most reliable batsmen in their cricketing history. He took to Twitter, posted a picture of theirs and wrote, “One of India’s greatest Player…The 4th highest test run scorer of all time! Mr. Cool, Calm and Collected #RahulDravid”
