Sarabjit Ladda holds the record for conceding most runs in an innings in Ranji Trophy 2015-16: In cricket we not just maintain the glorifying records of a player, there are certain dubious records also that does not go to augur well for the player concerned. These are the kind of numbers which neither the player, not their supporters would want to see/read.

One such dubious record is that of a bowler giving away the most number of runs in his bowling spell, which in turn helps the opposition run away with the game. The distinction for such a dubious performance, after seven rounds of league games in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2015-16, stands in the name of Sarabjit Ladda, the off-spinner representing Punjab.

In the second round match against Mumbai, played at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, between 8th and 11th October 2015, Ladda gave away as many as 197 runs in Mumbai’s first innings, in his spell of 35 overs, of which only 1 over had been a maiden. He picked up 2 wickets.

Winning the toss and choosing to field, Mumbai, by virtue of excellent bowling performance by Shardul Thakur (14-2-47-4) and Balwinder Singh Sandhu (Jr) (16-6-31-4) restricted Punjab to 154 runs in their first innings.

Thanks to the bowling efforts of the Punjab bowlers, Sarabjit Ladda (35-1-197-2), Varun Khanna (31-4-137-0) and Siddharth Kaul (26-2-103-2), Mumbai piled up a huge 569 runs in their first innings, with Shreyas Iyer (200) and the Mumbai skipper, Aditya Tare (137*) being the main run-compilers.

Mumbai took a huge lead of 415 runs and were successful in restricting Punjab to 403 runs in their second knock, greatly contributed by Jiwanjot Singh (91), Mandeep Singh (116) and the wicket-keeper, Gitansh Khera (86).

Mumbai’s off-spinner, Akshay Herwadkar, with a wonderful bowling analysis of 22.3-5-52-6, did the maximum damage to Punjab’s chances. Mumbai won the game by 12 runs. However, Ladda had the disrepute of giving away too many runs in the first innings and that remains a record in this edition of the tournament, thus far.
