Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed returned home mid-way from South Africa tour on Tuesday. He was called back by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after being banned for four matches by the ICC for making racial comments against Andile Phehlukwayo. However, on reaching Karachi Airport, Sarfaraz lashed out at former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar and accused him of making personal attacks on the matter.
As soon as the incident came to the fore, Akhtar was the first to lash out at Pakistan skipper. He felt that Sarfaraz should apologise as soon as possible for this behaviour which could make a damaging impact on the country as well. Moreover, in the following statement, Akhtar also hoped that the leader of the Men in Green escapes with a minimum ban on the matter.
“It is absolutely unacceptable as a Pakistani. I think he (Sarfraz) did it in the heat of the moment but he should apologise,” Akhtar had said.
Sarfaraz’s opens up
However, Sarfaraz Ahmed was aware of all the backlash it seems. He personally apologised to Phehlukwayo for his objectionable words ahead of the third ODI and also released an apologetic statement on Twitter saying that he didn’t have any intention to hurt anyone.
But the 31-year-old seems to have irked with Akhtar’s comments. When the reporters asked him about Akhtar’s criticism, Sarfaraz didn’t look pleased at all and according to Pak Passion said, “Shoaib Akhtar has not just criticised me but made a personal attack on me.”
Moreover, he was also thankful to the PCB for properly handling the issue and had no problems with them calling him back home. Sarfaraz was eligible to play the third and final T20I against South Africa after serving the ban but the board felt its better for him to come back home. The Pakistan captain will now be in the action during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) where he will lead the Quetta Gladiators.
