Sarfaraz Ahmed misses an easy chance to dismiss Moeen Ali behind the stumps
This mistake proved a little costly for Pakistan as Moeen went on to hit a 33-ball 61.
In the Pakistan tour of England which consisted of three-match Test and T20 series, the former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed finally got a chance in the playing XI for the Men in Green in the third and final T20 International against England in Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester. Sarfaraz was scrapped as the captain of the team after Pakistan’s poor performance in the 2019 World Cup. Later in the year, the wicketkeeper-batsman was also dropped from the playing XI.
After warming the bench for four matches, Sarfaraz finally got a chance to make a mark for his team but he couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity offered to him. The final T20 on Tuesday had commenced with England winning the toss and elected to field first. Batting first, Pakistan racked up a decent score of 190 runs at the end of the 20 overs owing to the blistering knock of not out 86 runs by Mohammad Hafeez and 54 off 33 balls by Haider Ali.
As the top-order batsmen managed to put up a fine show, Sarfaraz didn’t get a chance to make an impression with the bat. However, while keeping the gloves he had the opportunity to cement his position in the team but the team was left disappointed as he failed to stump the in-form batsman Moeen Ali.
In reply to Pakistan’s 190, England were reduced to a mere score of 86 runs at the loss of four wickets. It was supposed to be a cakewalk for the Men in Green as Moeen Ali was the only standing batsman who had the caliber to take England to victory after a bad start.
Sarfaraz Ahmed disappoints the team management yet again
The Asian nation had a chance to dismiss the left-handed batsman and finish the match much earlier but Ahmed left an easy opportunity to stump Moeen. On the fourth ball of the 11th over, Ali stepped out of the crease to hit Imad Wasim out of the park but he failed to connect with the ball. Sarfaraz, who was standing close to the stumps got hold of the ball but took a lot of time to hit the stumps which provided a lifeline to the English batsman.
This mistake proved a little costly for Pakistan as Moeen went on to hit a 33-ball 61. However, Pakistan managed to clinch the match by 5 runs owing to the brilliant bowling by Shaheen Afridi and Wahab Riaz.
