Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed has cleared that he was asked to spot-fix by an alleged bookie during the ODI series against Sri Lanka. The Men in Green performed exceedingly well in the recently concluded games in the 50-overs format after losing the Test series. But it was reported that one of the players of the team was approached by a person to fix the game ahead of the fourth ODI on Saturday. However, the skipper stayed away and informed the board about the happenings much to the joy of his fans.
The country has a bad history of the top players being involved in the fixing scandal and this time the bookies had contacted Sarfraz who is the national hero since leading the team to the triumph in the Champions Trophy in June. In 2010, the then skipper Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were all given prison sentences for conspiring to bowl deliberate no-balls in the fourth Test at Lord’s. Also, the likes of Khalid Latif and Sharjeel Khan were suspended for their involvement in the fixing scandal during the second edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) earlier this year.
I was not scared
Sarfraz Ahmed will lead Pakistan in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka which is all set to commence on Thursday. He also cleared few things about the approach of the bookie to him in the last week and said that he was not at all scared while informing it to the board. The wicket-keeper also felt that it was important to get back to cricket instead of focussing on the things which were not in his hands.
“Obviously I did my job of informing, but I was not scared when I informed about it. I did become scared after I saw myself on the television. There was so much talk about it on the television that I got scared. “By the grace of Allah everything is getting normal. When you are going into a series you need to be normal and everything is going good so far,” he told the media on the eve of the first T20I of the series.
