Sarfraz Ahmed credits Kane Williamson for his stupendous ton

Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed has hailed his counterpart Kane Williamson for scoring a brilliant century in the first ODI in Wellington. New Zealand, on the back of that knock, managed to win the first ODI albeit under DLS method as rain played spoilsport as well. But the skipper led from the front for the home side and helped them get past the 300-run mark in their stipulated fifty overs. However, Sarfraz also admitted that his team failed to adapt to the conditions on the day and hoped to make a comeback in the series.

Fakhar Zaman was the only shining light for the visitors as he played a fighting innings of 82 off 86 deliveries and was at the creased when the match was stopped due to rain. He missed out on a well-deserved ton and also determined to win the game for his country as they needed 150 off 20 overs.  The target was achievable given the T20 exploits in the modern-day cricket. Though the team looked wanting in demanding conditions and has to improve in soon in the series.

Sarfraz confident of doing well

Naturally, the skipper of Pakistan, Sarfraz Ahmed, looked disappointed with the performance of his team and hoped that they would make a comeback in the series. “Very tough conditions for us. Credit to New Zealand batsmen; Williamson batted very well. We’ll sit together and do better in the next game. It’s a setback for us, especially after losing two wickets in the first over,” he said. His counterpart Williamson was also happy for a complete performance and hoped that they could continue in the same vein.

He also emphasised that it was very important for them to start the series with a win against a strong Pakistan side. “It’s nice to be on the right side of the result. It was great to get one today against a strong Pakistan side. It was important to start well in the series. Pakistan are different from Windies, and it’s important to adapt to that. I think we did that well today. It was a very good surface, but at the same time, when we are up against Pakistan we have to be at our best. They won the Champions Trophy on very similar surfaces,” the centurion of the game opined.
