Wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni captained the Indian team in ODIs for the 200th occasion against Bangladesh after he passed the baton to Virat Kohli back in January 2017. However, he has been pretty vocal in the outfield and has been seen delivering instructions to players. Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both of whom captained India ever since haven’t felt shy while taking Dhoni’s inputs.
The suggestions have more often than not paid dividends for the national team. In India’s Super 4 match against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup, Dhoni’s cleverness worked wonders. Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladeshi middle-order batsman, was looking ominous having hit a couple of boundaries off left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja, one through the covers and next one through the deep square leg.
Thereafter, the 37-year-old had a chat with Rohit and asked him to remove the fielder Shikhar Dhawan from slip to square leg. In the very next delivery, Shakib went for a full-blooded sweep and hit the ball into the hands of Dhawan. It also put to end an ominous-looking 12-ball 17-run innings from the experienced left-handed batsman from Jessore, Bangladesh.

Yesterday, Pakistani captain Sarfraz Ahmed also tried to churn out a tactic alike Dhoni. The incident took place in the Men in Green’s virtual semi-final against Bangladesh at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Sarfraz removed the slip fielder when Hasan Ali was bowling to Mohammad Mithun. However, to his dismay, the ball raced through the slips in Ali’s very next delivery.
Mithun, eventually, went on to score 60 runs. Moreover, he also stitched together a match-winning partnership of 144 runs along with wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim, who tantalisingly got out for 99 runs. Mithun was eventually nipped out by Hasan in the fourth ball of the 34th over. To Sarfraz agony, Pakistan lost against the match against the Tigers and bowed out of the 2018 Asia Cup.
