Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed and his Test team is going through a tough phase right now. While Sarfraz is constantly failing to deliver with the bat, the Test side’s miseries have been further compounded by the latest dismal show in South Africa. But it looks like the tough times have not managed to dampen the Pakistan skipper’s mood as he delivered some absolutely hilarious comments from behind the stumps in the recently-concluded second Test against South Africa.
One of the most notable incidents took place when part-timer bowler Azhar Ali came on to bowl. He had come on to bowl in the second innings when South Africa needed just 6 runs while chasing a paltry 41. And with the match not at stake, Ali, who usually bowls leg-spin, tried his hand at medium-pace. However, his attempt to go for a long run-up did not impress Sarfraz at all as the skipper ended up taunting his teammate, saying:
“Jaldi kar lay, Malcolm Marshall (Be fast, Malcolm Marshall).”
Azhar, meanwhile, could not make much of an impression and conceded two fours as South Africa sealed the game by 10 wickets and also bagged the three-match series with a match in hand.
Sarfraz rues poor performance from fast-bowlers.
Following the defeat in the second Test, Sarfraz pointed out the big difference between his seamers and South Africa’s. The wicketkeeper-batsman said that the lack of pace with which Pakistan had bowled “won’t get you wickets” on the track that was on offer for the second Test in Cape Town.
Batting first, Pakistan could only manage to post 177. In reply, the hosts piled up 431 with skipper Faf du Plessis scoring a stunning ton. Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock also scored fifties to guide their team to a huge total. In the second innings, Pakistan did slightly better, scoring 294 to avoid an innings defeat.
“If you talk about our bowling and their bowling, I think there’s a big difference in the two,” Sarfraz said. “The way our bowlers are bowling is not up to the mark in this Test match. If you see our bowlers, they’re bowling 128-129, and the average speed is 130, while their bowlers are bowling at 145. If you are going to bowl with that lack of pace here you won’t get wickets.
Pakistan will look to end the series on a good note when they take on the hosts in the third Test in Johannesburg.
