'Sarojini Nagar market level bargain' - Wasim Jaffer's hilarious take on Delhi Capitals' David Warner steal deal
DC bought Warner for INR 6.25 crore.
The ongoing IPL 2022 mega auction has seen some surprisingly expensive buys and heated bidding wars between franchises to acquire star players to bolster their teams. Star Australian opening batter David Warner was roped in by the Delhi Capitals for INR 6.25 crore in the ongoing 2022 auctions being held in Bengaluru.
The pocket dynamo from New South Wales was released from his previous franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad following a disappointing 2021 IPL season with the bat. He was also sacked as the captain after SRH performed poorly in the first half of the 2021 IPL.
However, things turned around for the southpaw in the T20 World Cup 2021 where he put up a string of consistent match-winning performances that helped Australia win the T20 World Cup in UAE in 2021. The 35-year-old featured in the auction at a base price of INR 2 Crores.
Wasim Jaffer’s hilarious take on Delhi Capitals’ steal deal
Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer decided to see the funny side of the fact that Warner did not go for a much more expensive price. It was expected that the left-hander would go for a lot more than what he was sold for to the Delhi Capitals.
Posting on the micro-blogging site Koo, Jaffer wrote “Delhi people are known to strike a bargain, but getting David Warner for just INR 6.25 crore is a Sarojini Nagar market-level bargain #IPLAuction2022 #IPL2022”.
David Warner has been an IPL stalwart over the years. He started off his journey with then the Delhi Capitals before he was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad with whom he has spent the majority of his IPL career leading the side, leading them to the title in 2016.
In 150 appearances in IPL, Warner has scored 5449 runs, the most ever by any overseas player, at 41.59 and with a strike rate of 139.96. His tally includes four centuries, the second-most by any player in IPL after Virat Kohli (5), and 54 half-century-plus scores, the most in the league.
It will be interesting to see how the former SRH skipper would go about his business this season, given he had his worst IPL season last year where he was unable to put up good performances.
