Controversies in Pakistan cricket are as common as injuries to fast bowlers, Virat Kohli chasing down targets, Australian batsmen struggling against spin and South Africa choking in ICC tournaments. Seldom have there been times when Pakistan cricket has not been affected by any controversy and the latest addition in their endless list of controversies is the spat between two of their most popular batsmen of different generations – Javed Miandad and Shahid Afridi.

It all started with Javed Miandad’s comments on Shahid Afridi stating Afridi’s childish demands for a farewell game are only because of his desire for money. He said that just like a child always runs after candies, Afridi has always been running behind money throughout his career. He also said that Afridi is just an average batsman who doesn’t deserve any farewell game.

Afridi was agitated, not because he was called an average batsman but because he was criticized for his hunger for money. He replied to these crude comments by mentioning that Miandad has always played for money and to solve his financial issues.

This ignited the verbal spat and took it to a whole new level. Miandad decided to fight fire with fire. Miandad claimed in media that Afridi cannot be trusted with his comments. He said, “After the defeat in the semi-final of World Cup 2011, Afridi said that Indians are not big hearted people and 5 years later he was overheard saying that he has more fans in India than in Pakistan. What hypocrisy is this? He has also announced retirement many times but has never hung his boots officially. You see, Afridi is not a trustworthy person – neither with the bat nor with his words.”

He also imposed match-fixing allegations on Afridi claiming that he has caught him red-handed taking money and knows a lot about other match fixers in the national team. Wasim Akram seemed worried that the buried secrets of Pakistan cricket might come out so he publicly urged both Miandad and Afridi to calm down for the sake of the nation.

In the end, it needed the divine intervention from underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim to solve the matter. He called Shahid Afridi one night and as per our secret source, this is how the conversation went:

*Phone rings*

Dawood: Hello Lala! Dawood bol raha hun.

Afridi: Haan Bhai boliye, kuch galti hui kya mujhse?

Dawood: Ye kya mere samdhi ko pareshan kar raha hai?

Afridi: Janab maine kuch nahi kiya wo khud hi mere piche pade hain.

Dawood: Shahid, teri wo 37-ball century wali innings meri favourite hai.

Afridi (smiles): Thank you Bhai.

Dawood: Jitne tune chhakke maare the us din, utni hi goliya’n thokunga tere andar.

*Line Disconnected*

Next day, the world saw a video of Shahid Afridi and Javed Miandad dissolving their distances enjoying sweets off each other’s hands. But after the release of the video, a small sneak peak of a behind the scene conversation between the two icons of Pakistan batting was also revealed.

It went like this:

Shahid Afridi: “Didn’t expect you to involve Dawood Bhai in this. Otherwise, I would have never come here.”

Javed replied: “Bas Shahid, Baap baap hota hai aur beta beta”

Afridi: “Bhaijaan, aap Miandad hai, Miandad rahe, Sachin banne ki koshish na kare.”
