Last year, former cricketer Sazzad Ahmed Shipon earned his place in the selection committee of the national team from the age-based team. It was the same time when Faruk Ahmed resigned from the position of chief selector and former skipper Habibul Bashar was also included as the assistant of the chief selector, with Minhazul Abedin Nannu at the top spot.
Shipon worked as the third member in the selection committee for a year. As his tenure came to an end in this year, the BCB removed him from the selection committee and then he again started working for the age-based team.
’’I have started working again with the age-based team. We four selectors are here in this age-based team. I heard that one of us from here will join the national team. As Ehsanul Haque Sezan is the senior most selector so he should have been selected for the national team,” Shipon said.
Favoring the old guns
Interestingly, it has also been heard that BCB wants Minhazul Abedin and Habibul Bashar as the member of selection committee. The reason is to believed that head coach of national team Chandika Hathurusingha, team manager Khaled Mahmud Suzan and Akram Khan is also present in the selection committee.
Akram Khan recently said “Now they have no wish to fulfill the vacant post in the selection committee. He added that there are still two selectors in the selection committee.’’
Shipon has played 2 ODIs for Bangladesh, and scored 15 runs in total. In First-class cricket, Shipon has scored 1282 runs from 33 games at an average of 25.64, along with six fifties and a hundred. He has also played 39 List A games, scoring 638 runs with a best of 63. He has a total of 11 wickets in domestic cricket. The right-hand batsman made his international debut in 1995 against India at Sharjah.
