Schedule of inaugural T20 Global League released

The tournament director of the T20 Global League, Russell Adams seemed very optimistic about the prospects of the league.

T20 Global League is the newest franchise based T20 league in the town. There is a lot of excitement about the league and enthusiasm has increased with the release of schedule of the tournament. There is an action-packed calendar with 57 matches scheduled over a period of 44 days. The first match of the tournament will be played on November 3, at Cape Town while the final will be hosted in Johannesburg on 16th November.

The opening encounter will be played between the Cape Town Knight Riders and the Pretoria Mavericks which is a typical ‘North-South’ derby. Then it will be followed with two double headers on Saturday and Sunday. This would be the format of the tournament, double headers will be played out on weekends. Sometimes there are double headers in the middle of the week as well. There is an attempt to give ample amount of rest days to the teams in the tournament which will test the endurance of the players.

The league stage will consist of 56 matches, with all the teams playing twice against each other. It is supposed to be closely fought as only top 2 will play the final on November 16.

Russell Adams seemed excited

The tournament director of the T20 Global League, Russell Adams seemed very optimistic about the prospects of the league. “South African sport has never experienced anything quite like this before and I am absolutely confident that the T20 Global League will take the sports entertainment industry in this country to a new level. Russell Adams said as quoted by the Sport24.

He seemed very excited about the fact that AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle would come face to face in the opener. “Can you imagine the excitement on our opening night at iconic Newlands when two of the greatest players in the history of the T20 format, AB de Villiers of the Pretoria Mavericks, and Chris Gayle of the Cape Town Knight Riders, go head to head?” Adams added

He further stated that league can serve as a platform for the emerging players as they would get the chance to rub shoulders with the superstars. “And watch out for the emergence of exciting young South African talent as our rookies are inspired by some of the big names in their squads. This has been a feature of the franchise T20 tournaments around the world.”
