Schedule for India’s tour of Sri Lanka 2017

Team India soon after returning from the Caribbean is scheduled to travel down south to Sri Lanka. They will stay in the island country for almost a month and a half as this is a full-fledged tour comprising of 3 Tests, 5 ODIs and a T20I. While the Men in Blue are currently in West Indies where they wrapped up the five-match ODI series winning it 3-1 the Lankans are battling it out against Zimbabwe at home and lead the series 2-1 after three out of the 5 ODIs.

As far as the ODI team rankings are concerned the hosts are down to No.8 under Pakistan and Bangladesh whereas the Indian team is ranked third. Pakistan edged past them after winning the Champions Trophy 2017 where they beat all the top three teams in their quest to lift the title.

The Sri Lankan selectors are closely watching the ongoing series before they sit down to pick the squad to face India who have always enjoyed an upper hand against their neighbours. On the other hand, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will have to first appoint a coach for the team and then select the team for the tour. Reports also suggest that the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are in talks for a series in India later this year.

The tour starts with the first Test at Galle from 26th of July, the teams will then move to Colombo where they play the 2nd Test from August 3, Kandy has been chosen as the venue for the conclusive Test of the series. Dambulla and Colombo will host the first two and the last two ODIs in the 50 overs series that gets underway on 20th August while the 3rd match will be played at Kandy. The only T20I of the tour is scheduled for 6th September at the R Premadasa Cricket Stadium, Colombo.
