Indian cricket fans are spread all over the world. One would not find any venue where the Indian fans don’t go to see the Men in Blue play. The Indian side is currently in Zimbabwe for a three-match ODI series where the skipper KL Rahul had a personal encounter with a teenage fan the day before the series’ opening game in Harare.

On Wednesday, Indian players were accepting fan requests for photographs and signatures, as they had done during their ODI and T20I tour in the West Indies, when a young fan confronted KL Rahul. The guy, who seemed to be in his teen years took pictures with Rahul and Ishan Kishan and told them that he is a big fan of the right-handed opening batter.

In a video shared by journalist Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel, Rahul asked him as he made his way back: “Kal match dekhne aaoge? (Will you come to watch the match tomorrow?”. The kid smiled broadly and said: “Ayenge! School gaya bhaad mein (Of course! To hell with school).”

However, Rahul was sensible enough to advise the young fan against pulling such a trick, to which the guy responded: “School mein utna kuch important hai bhi nahi kal (There’s nothing much of importance to do at the school tomorrow).”

India visit Zimbabwe after a gap of six years

Given that the Indian team is visiting Harare after a prolonged six-year break, the excitement among local fans is entirely justified. MS Dhoni was the captain the previous time they visited, and Rahul actually made his ODI debut and hit a century there, becoming the first and only Indian to score a ton on his ODI debut.

Rahul, who is returning to the Indian team after a significant break owing to injury and health issues, said that he has trained well and is eager to take over as captain in regular skipper Rohit Sharma’s absence. After being ruled out of the home series against South Africa, where he was supposed to lead in the five T20Is in June, he missed out on the England tour after testing positive for Covid-19 and was later advised to take more rest due to which he missed out on the Caribbean tour as well.
