'Score a double Virat Kohli' - When Jofra Archer backed Indian skipper to score big Down Under
England pacer Jofra Archer rooted for Virat Kohli during the Indian team's 2014-15 tour of Australia.
Virat Kohli sure had a memorable outing with the bat on his debut captaincy match Down Under in the 2014/15 series. Former India skipper MS Dhoni shockingly announced retirement from the Test format after playing the first game of the four-match Test series. The 32-year-old was thrust into the role of captaincy against an ever so aggressive Australian side at home.
In the second Test in Adelaide, Kohli got a taste of captaincy and the tremendous amount of pressure and expectations that come along with it. He surely aced the leadership role, by scoring two centuries and almost took India over the line in a steep run-chase of 364, only to be denied victory by a brilliant spell from off-spinner Nathon Lyon. But, Kohli’s second innings of 141 is still widely spoken by experts and fans solidified the right-hand batter’s reputation as a quality Test match player.
The Indian skipper scored a whopping 692 runs in the series and was the shining light for India. While the right-hand batter was scoring runs for fun during that series, England fast bowler Jofra Archer cheered him from West Indies in the year 2014. The right-arm pacer is the most popular cricketer on social media due to cheeky tweets, match predictions and fun banters. He was living in Barbados, while India were facing Australia Down Under in 2014.
Archer was awake the whole night to watch the Test match and the pacer tweeted he wanted a double-ton from Kohli. This tweet was posted during the fourth and last Test match between the two teams. Kohli scored 147 in the first innings at Sydney Test and the match ended in a draw.
Virat Kohli and the management hint at making a few changes during the England series
Kohli now shifts his attention to a five-match Test series against England which will start on August 04. This series will be the start of the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle and the management and the 32-year-old have hinted at a possible few changes in combinations during the high octane five-match Test series against England.
With Shubman Gill ruled out from the first Test, Kohli might bring in Mayank Agarwal, or KL Rahul in his place. Apart from that, there is also the option of Hanuma Vihari, who either can be used as an opener or at number six.
