India are currently brimming confidence after their gruelling tour of Australia. They tied the three-match T20I series to start their campaign, winning the third match of the series courtesy of Indian captain Virat Kohli’s half-century. They were yet to win a Test series on Australian soil in their 71-year-old history against the Aussies but managed to enter the record books with a 2-1 victory.
Kohli’s men won the first Test at the Adelaide Oval, however, slumped to a defeat by 146 runs at the New Perth Stadium. Nevertheless, India came back to win the third Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and then drew the last Test in Sydney. The ODI series didn’t start on a happy note for them as they lost at the SCG despite Rohit Sharma’s superlative knock of 133 runs.
Styris challenges India
Instead of throwing in the towel, India won the second and third ODI in Adelaide and Melbourne respectively to win their maiden ODI bilateral series on Australian soil. Now they set to travel to New Zealand for a five-match ODI series and a three-match T20I series. Napier, Mount Maunganui, Hamilton, Wellington and Auckland will play hosts to the limited-overs series.
In the meantime, Scott Styris, the former New Zealand all-rounder, has challenged India before the tour. He took to Twitter and wrote, “Well done @BCCI ..entree is over time for the main course!!!,”

India last toured New Zealand back in January-February 2014. The journey turned out to be equivalent to a nightmare for the visiting team. The team, captained by MS Dhoni, lost the five-match ODI series 4-0 and only managed to evade a defeat at the Eden Park in Auckland where the match was tied. The Black Caps won the first Test match in Auckland itself and the second Test in Wellington turned out to be a draw.
