Security will not be an issue for Pakistan when they travel to India for T20 World Cup: Aakash Chopra

India is set to host two major ICC events in the next few years. Firstly, it will be the T20 World Cup followed by which India will host the 2023 Cricket World Cup. India has never hosted the 50 overs World Cup alone. In 1987, they hosted the tournament with Pakistan, in 1996 Pakistan and Sri Lanka were the supporting hosts while in 2011 Bangladesh and Sri Lanka jointly co-hosted the tournament.

Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra, the cricketer turned commentator has suggested that the Pakistan cricket team will not face any security concerns or issues when they are in India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2021.

The bilateral relations between India and Pakistan haven’t been really good in recent times. At the political front also, the governments have not been at peace. Amidst of all this, the Pakistan Cricket Board [PCB] has asked the International Cricket Council [ICC] to get a written assurance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India [BCCI] that there will be no issues as far as issuance of visa is concerned.

Talking about this matter, Chopra revealed that Pakistan doesn’t have anything to worry about as far as security is concerned. However, he specified it will depend if the Pakistan team gets the clearance to travel to India.

“Security will not be an issue for Pakistan whenever they come to India for the T20 World Cup, that is guaranteed. Security assurance will be provided to them” Aakash Chopra said on Sawera Pasha’s Youtube show Cricast.

“The BCCI is not reacting on this at the moment because there is no need to say anything right now because nobody knows what is going to happen in the near future due to the coronavirus crisis,” he added.

The cricket expert quite rightly pointed out that there is no assurance whether the tournament will be held or not. He cleared out that if the tournament happens, only then we can start thinking about all this.

“Let there be some confirmation on the T20 World Cup first then all these concerns of safety and security can be addressed,” Aakash Chopra said.“There is still a lot of time for the tournament to happen but whenever Pakistan comes to India, definitely assurance will be given. Security will be provided and Pakistan team will be safe in India,” he added.

India and Pakistan have not played any bilateral series since 2012. Pakistan had travelled to India on that occasion for three ODIs and two T20Is. Both teams have been playing against each other in Asia Cup and World Cup though.
