'Seen Dre Russ do that, but Pat, it's unbelievable' - Coach Brendon McCullum praises Pat Cummins after record knock
Cummins recorded the joint-fastest fifty in IPL history while batting against Mumbai Indians.
Australia cricketer Pat Cummins recorded the joint-fastest fifty in IPL history. Cummins came down the order and went on to smash an unbeaten 56*(15) to win the game knock against the Mumbai Indians on Wednesday evening in the 14th match of the IPL 2022.
Cummins hit four fours and six maximums in the 15 balls that he faced, batted at a strike rate of 373.3, and led the team to win the match in the 16th over itself, chasing a total of 162. He joined opener Venkatesh Iyer, who brought up his fifty in 41 balls before Cummins took over. After the team’s win, their head coach Brendon McCullum had heaps of praises for the team members on how well they handled the game.
In a video shared by KKR on their Twitter handle, McCullum is seen talking about the combined efforts by the team, and the special knock by Cummins and Venkatesh. He said: “The subliminal message that it sends to the opposition is that we will continue to play our shots. We will continue to try and take you on. We have total and utter belief in that style of play. It’s not always going to work there’s going to be times where we are going to be challenged doing it.”
“But if we do that and we invest in it and we communicate well, we are out here and bounce of one another, and it’s going to make us really difficult (to play). Okay? And that’s why Venkatesh, your innings today when Pat was out there with you was very very intelligent. Okay, you’re able to hold up an end for him still be able to score at a strike rate but hold up an end and allow Pat to play his natural game,” McCullum added
“Okay, that’s the kind of bouncing off one another we require. Right? Last message from me, Pat, we’re used to seeing Dre Russ do that, we’ve seen you do it couple of times. But mate that is unbelievable 56 not out of 15 balls!,” he concluded as the whole dressing room started applauding and cheering for the duo.
