Shafali Verma is in the news more often than not. Verma is only 17 years old but is considered a batting prodigy in the world of cricket. And, in the second ODI between the England Women and the Indian Women, Verma’s attempt to get back to the crease reminded a fan of another cricketing colossus who wore the Indian jersey.
Off the 4th ball of the 17th over bowled by Sophie Ecclestone, Verma came down the track to cut the ball. But then, she did not read the delivery properly and failed to connect it with her willow.
England wicketkeeper Amy Jones whipped the bails off in a flash. Verma stretched her legs to return back to the crease but her effort went in vain as she was caught short of her ground. Verma scored 44 for the Indian side at the top of the order.
Indian fan gets reminded of MS Dhoni after seeing Shafali Verma’s dismissal
And, after this effort from Shafali Verma, a fan got reminded of the great MS Dhoni. Dhoni had made a similar effort in a bid to return back to the crease in a T20I encounter against the Australian side. A fan noticed the similarities between Dhoni and Verma and tweeted that Verma tried to replicate Dhoni’s effort, but the effort turned futile.

As far as the match is concerned, the England Women beat the Indian Women comfortably with 5 wickets and 15 balls to spare. India was bowled out for 221 in their allotted 50 overs, with batting legend Mithali Raj scoring a 92-ball 59. Kate Cross sizzled with the ball for England and scalped 5 wickets.
England chased down the target on the back of a brilliant 73* off 81 deliveries from Sophia Dunkley. Opener Lauren Winfield-Hill too contributed a handy 42 off 57 deliveries. The Mithali Raj-led side has now conceded a 0-2 lead to the England Women side in the three-match ODI series.
The 3rd ODI between the England Women and the Indian Women will be played on 3rd July 2021 at Worcester. This ODI series will be followed by a three-match T20I series as well. The T20I series will commence on 9th July 2021.
