Pakistan’s left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi has revealed two former cricketers from his nation whom he admires the most. Afridi reckoned that he has high regards for all-rounder Shahid Afridi and veteran pacer Wasim Akram apart from his elder brother Riaz Afridi, who played a solitary Test for the nation against Sri Lanka ages ago in 2004.
In a recent chat with Cricket Pakistan, the young sensation opened up on a host of things including issues around workload management as well. Notably, Afridi has constantly been in action, with former cricketers suggesting the Pakistan management to take care of their premium pacer by ensuring to manage his workload.
Lauding his support staff, trainers and physios, Afridi said that he feels he is being managed well by the team, and should he need rest, he will not hesitate from letting the management know.
I’ll try my best to make a name like Wasim bhai: Shaheen Afridi
On being asked to name his favorite Pakistan cricketers, he said, “From the very start, I have maintained that my big brother Riaz Afridi is my ideal player. I started playing cricket after watching him and, of course, Shahid Afridi. In bowling, I was very fond of Wasim bhai (Wasim Akram). I will try my best to make a name like him. The way he served Pakistan, I want to do the same and make the country proud.”
He also revealed that he does not have too many cricket-related conversations with his going-to-be father-in-law Shahid Afridi. “Not much (discussion on cricket). When we do, it is mostly about how my cricket is going. He gives me good wishes and asks me to make Pakistan proud with my performances.”
When asked about when will he be getting hitched, Shaheen Afridi replied, “Let’s see. Right now, my focus is on cricket. There are back-to-back World Cups coming up, so I am concentrating on that as of now as I want to play the World Cups for Pakistan.
The Lahore Qalandar pacer also touched upon the resumption of PSL 2021 in Abu Dhabi from June 9. “We have world-class players in our Lahore Qalandars squad like Rashid Khan, Mohammed Hafeez, Fakhar Zaman. If we need more players in the future, we will look at it. But as of now, the present Lahore Qalandars team is the best.”
