India batter Shreyas Iyer is slowly and steadily recovering from the shoulder injury that he suffered during the India and England series in the month of March. Iyer, who partially dislocated his shoulder was ruled out the subsequent ODI series and the entire 14th edition of the Indian Premier League. The 26-year-old has started working whenever he could possibly get time amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
He underwent surgery for the same on April 8 and he was expected to be fully fit within five months. One good news for Iyer and the Delhi Capitals is the IPL was suspended on May 4 amid the rising cases within the squads. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials are contemplating finishing the remainder of the games either in the month of September or October and the Capitals skipper is expected to be fit by that time.
Iyer is making the most of this break and is trying to get back in shape. He posted a video of his outdoor training in which the 26-year-old can be seen running uphill on a gravel track. As soon as the video went viral, his Mumbai teammate SuryaKumar Yadav mocked him by calling his running technique as’Shahenshah’.
Shreyas Iyer expected to back for India’s tour to Sri Lanka
Looking at the video, one can see Iyer looking in good form which will make the management happy. This is good news for fans too, as India are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for a white-ball series sans their regular players, who will be on tour to England.

Already the captaincy topic for the tour is a hot topic of discussion and the 26-year-old could well be named the skipper of the squad considering his captaincy credentials for the Mumbai team and the Capitals during the IPL. In his short career so far, Iyer has scored 1363 runs in 51 games across both formats.
His inclusion in the squad for the Sri Lanka series will definitely bolster India’s batting order considering there is not much experience at top-order excluding Shikhar Dhawan. Iyer will look to make a mark in the series as India will be looking to win the series.
India are set to play its first game against Sri Lanka on 13th July and Iyer is optimistic of making it to the squad.
