Former star Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi has come in support of his former teammate Umar Gul. It’s been a while since he made his last international appearance which was against New Zealand in a T20I last year. The 33-year-old has more than 400 international wickets to boast in his career.

Recently, Gul was selected in Shahid Afridi’s Pakhtoons squad for the upcoming T10 Cricket league in the UAE. The tournament is supposed to commence on the 21st of December and promises to be an exciting one.

I should help him return to international cricket

Afridi was questioned about the pace bowler’s selection in the squad. He remarked that while Gul hadn’t played international cricket for some time now, he was still doing good in all fronts in domestic cricket which propelled him to pick the right-arm pacer.

“I don’t know when Gul last played international cricket but he has been active in league cricket, where I have seen his performance,” Afridi was quoted as saying by the B Recorder.

He further added that he was aware that Umar Gul’s Pakistan career come to a halt, as a result of the injuries he had faced and looked forward to helping his former teammate revive his lost touch.

“I know Umar Gul’s career struggled after the injuries, but I believe that I should support him as a senior and help him return to international cricket,” Afridi added.

Umar Gul used to be a sensation in the Pakistani bowling ranks. However, fitness issues have troubled him time and again and he has failed to keep up a permanent spot in the playing XI. Also with the emergence of young bowlers like Mohammed Amir, Mohammed Irfan and Hasan Ali, it seems unlikely that the pacer will make a comeback. But then it’s Pakistan cricket and you never lose hope.
