Arguably the greatest cricketing icons of Shahid Afridi called it quits from international cricket very recently but despite this fact, the flamboyant all-rounder continues to rule of the hearts of millions of Pakistan fans. During his illustrious career, Afridi was involved in quite a few controversies and was in the headlines either for his performances or for all the wrong reasons.

The star all-rounder who played for the Peshawar Zalmi in the first two editions of Pakistan Super League confirmed a few days earlier that he won’t be part of the team anymore from the next year onwards and his fans will be seeing him donning the colours of another franchise. Taking to his twitter handle Afridi wrote that after winning the trophy with Peshawar it is time to lift the title with another franchise.

It was while speaking to ICC that Afridi opened up on his cricketing journey over the past 2 decades and said that was blessed to have played cricket for Pakistan. “Playing for Pakistan has been a big achievement for me. It can’t get bigger than that. My performance were up and down but you can expect that in a 20-21 year career. Cricket makes your cry more than it makes you laugh. We laughed, cried, enjoyed ourselves a great deal, even became emotional and we were aggressive at times as well,” Afridi was quoted as saying by Dunya News Pakistan.

The all-rounder was also optimistic about the fact that limited overs captain Sarfaraz Ahmed can take them to greater heights in the near future. He feels Sarfaraz has it in him to take forward the legacy of Pakistan cricket.  “We need to put in a lot of hard work going forward. No doubt, Sarfraz Ahmed is an aggressive captain and the team needs such individual. My best wishes are with him and I hope he finds the right combination as soon as possible so that he can build his team and gain confidence.”

Post retirement Afridi is concentrating on his foundation for the betterment of the society. “I don’t think much about future. As of now, I am concentrating on my foundation. People in Pakistan have prayed and wished for me and it is my time to do some social work for them. With the blessing of the almighty, hopefully, I will be successful at that,” Afridi signed off.
