Shahid Afridi mentally a 16-year-old, Gautam Gambhir lashes out at former Pakistan all-rounder
Afridi and Gambir's clash was started way back in 2007 during the Kanpur ODI.
Retired Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi’s biography came out on April 30 and thereafter some startling revelations have come to the fore. In his book, the Khyber Agency-born cricketer called Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian batsman, a ‘negative individual’. Afridi reminisced his altercation with Gambhir way back in 2007 during the Kanpur ODI where both were fined.
It was on-field umpire Ian Gould, who had to intervene in that matter and later match referee Roshan Mahanama imposed the fines on the cricketers. Moreover, Afridi went on to say that Gautam is someone who “behaves like a cross between Don Bradman and James Bond,” and has a “lot of attitude and no great records”.
Afridi’s words didn’t go down well with the 37-year-old Gambhir and he tweeted, saying that Afridi needs a psychiatrist.”…you are a hilarious man!!! Anyway, we are still granting visas to Pakistanis for medical tourism. I will personally take you to a psychiatrist,” the tweet read.
Some people are really mentally ill, says Gambhir
Gambhir, who hung his boots from playing cricket last year in December and will be contesting the 2019 Look Sabha Elections for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), now mentioned that Afridi has a mental age of 16. Moreover, the Delhi-born Gautam remarked that his records are for everyone to see and it’s up to people to decide upon his character while calling Afridi mentally ill.
“I am sure he will sell his book better. Some People grow in an age not mentally. Shahid Afridi may be 36, 37 years old (Afridi is 39). But he is 16 mentally,” Gambhir was quoted as saying in India Today during a roadshow in Delhi on Sunday.
“My records are in open. Becoming ICC Test player of the year, winning Test series and World Cup. People will decide what I have done for the country. Some people are really mentally ill and so need psychiatrist treatment,” Gambhir added.
