Shahid Afridi, the former Pakistan cricketer, chose the actors he feels could play his role in case a biopic is made on him. And the veteran from Khyber Agency picked the dashing Tom Cruise and Bollywood’s Mr Perfectionist Amir Khan. Even as Afridi wishes for Cruise to feature in the English biopic, he wants Aamir to play in the Urdu version of the movie.
Back in August 2013, the 39-year-old made a short appearance in a movie, named Main Hoon Shahid Afridi. He had a short cameo at the fag end of the movie where he was seen, giving some advice to a youngster, who wishes to emulate him in his career. The movie did reasonably well in the box office, earning PKR 5.2 crore, which is around US$ 3,70,000.
Shahid Afridi shining in his career
In his career, Afridi didn’t have the greatest of numbers, but he was a crowd puller owing to his attacking style of play. He made his debut for Pakistan way back in 1996 and later smashed a 37-ball century in ODI cricket. He also opened the batting and was someone, who preferred to express himself. Though he lost his wickets, he never stopped going for big shots.
In his career, he scored over 11,000 runs with 11 centuries and 51 half-centuries to show for his efforts. The 40-year-old was no mug with the ball either, picking up 541 wickets with 10 five-wicket haul and eight four-wicket hauls. He last played for Pakistan in the 2016 edition of the World T20 in India. His last international match was for the World XI back in May 2018.
However, Afridi still continues to weave his magic on the cricket field. Earlier this year, he plied his trade for the Dhaka Platoon in the 2019-20 edition of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). During the tournament, he picked up some crucial wickets and also chipped in with cameos.
Then he was a part of the Multan Sultans in the fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Yet another time, he stood up for his team with solid performances. In his career, he has also gotten himself tangled in a few controversies after opining on certain sensitive matters.
