Shahid Afridi wasn't scared of anyone barring one Indian batsman
Afridi is set to play the upcoming Afghanistan Premier League (APL), representing the Paktia Panthers franchise.
Even at the age of 38, former Pakistan all-round cricketer Shahid Afridi has the ability to whack the leather into the stands. Throughout his career, he was deemed as a reckless batsman, but the opinions didn’t ruffle his feathers. Rather, he kept treading the attacking route and though he tasted quite a bit of failure, his fandom was worth envying courtesy of his fearless approach on the pitch.
The Khyber Agency-born player racked 476 sixes in his international career, which is a testimony to his unflinching style of play. The veteran bowed out of international cricket in May after representing the World XI in a T20 match against the Windies at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
I wasn’t scared of anyone
Apart from his power-hitting prowess, the experienced campaigner was more than handy with his leg-breaks. With 541 wickets for Pakistan, he was one of his team’s go-to-man in crisis and he hardly let his team down. However, he found one Indian batsman as a brute force to reckon with.
Recently, Afridi admitted that he found it difficult to bowl to Virender Sehwag, the former Indian opening batsman. “I wasn’t scared of anyone when I played cricket but the one player who it was difficult to bowl to was Virender Sehwag” Afridi was quoted as saying in Pak Passion.
Sehwag and Afridi have featured together in quite a few ODIs and the latter was taken apart at times by the Nawab of Najafgarh. Like Afridi, Sehwag ended with a career with a strike-rate of over a hundred in ODIs and T20Is. The Delhi-born cricketer didn’t mind taking on the best in the business and the same tactic earned him with a number of laurels in his career.
Sehwag last donned the national colours in a Test against Australia in March 2013. In the meantime, Afridi is set to play the upcoming Afghanistan Premier League (APL), representing the Paktia Panthers franchise.
