After a successful Test series with the bat, Windies batsman Shai Hope has now created a new record in ODI cricket continuing his great time on the England tour. The Windies’ No.3 batsman amassed a total 375 runs during the Test series including twin centuries in the Headingley Test match where the Caribbean team recorded their first Test win in England after 17 long years.
The 23-year-old received Man of the series award in that Test series and also became the first player in the 534 first-class matches history of the Leeds ground to score a century in both the innings. During the final ODI game of the 5-match series against England at Southampton, Shai became the first player in the history to record a double-digit score in first 20 ODI innings of his career.
In the process, Hope broke the record held by Australia’s Michael Bevan, who scored more than ten in each of his first 19 innings. He scored 72 in the game which is his 4th ODI fifty besides his 101 in his very 2nd ODI game. Hope’s lowest score so far is 11 runs which he recorded in the previous ODI at The Oval.

Bevan, who previously held the record of most consecutive double-digit scores from debut in ODIs saw his streak coming to an end in an unfortunate manner as the Australian went unbeaten on one run in his 20th ODI innings.
Michael Bevan’s streak of double-digits scores from the debut in ODIs:
Bevan set this record to his name as he went past his countryman, Mark Taylor who held the record with 17 consecutive ODI innings with a double-digit score. Taylor’s streak came to an end when he managed to score only three runs in his 18th ODI innings.

Before Shai Hope, the closest anyone has come to break Bevan’s record was Matt Machan of Scotland. The young left-hander had double-digit scores in his first 16 ODI innings before scoring only five runs in his 17th innings.
