Shakib Al Hasan eclipses Rashid Khan to soar to the top in ICC ODI all-rounder rankings
He eclipsed Rashid Khan in the ranking to reach the top.
The Bangladesh cricket team was exceptional in the recently concluded Tri-nation series in Ireland as they were undefeated throughout and emerged victorious at the end of the final. Meanwhile, there’s more good news for the Bangladesh team as their ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has soared to the top of the ICC ODI rankings for all-rounders, ahead of the Cricket World Cup 2019 which begins on May 30 in England and Wales.
The 32-year-old eclipsed Rashid Khan in the ranking to reach the top. Shakib was in good form during the tri-nation series in Ireland, which also had West Indies in the contest. He amassed 140 runs, hitting two unbeaten half-centuries and also claimed two scalps in three outings during the tri-nation battle. With 359 points, he’s now 20 ahead of Afghanistan‘s prodigy Rashid Khan, who now holds the second spot. The next in the list is Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi with 319 points.
In September 2018, Rashid Khan claimed the top all-rounder spot in ICC’s ODI rankings after his excellent performance at the Asia Cup 2018. The 20-year-old leggie was sensational with the ball with 10 wickets in five outings and also fared well with the bat as he amassed 87 runs at an average of 43.50. He had then overhauled Shakib to take his top position, and now Shakib has turned the tables. Amongst everyone, Nabi-at No.3- has held his spot.
Raza makes it to top 10, while Stokes misses out
Besides Afghanistan, the Pakistan team is the only other team to have two players in the top ten of ICC all-rounder rankings. While the 30-year-old left-handed batsman and left-arm leggie Imad Wasim holds the number 4 spot, on the seventh spot we have the veteran all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez claims the seventh position. The 38-year-old off-spinner was previously being troubled by a recurring thumb injury he picked up at the PSL but is now fully fit for the World Cup.
Between Imad and Hafeez, the Number 5 and Number 6 spots are held by New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner and England’s sensational pacer Chris Woakes with 271 points. The shocking name to have missed out of the top ten spots is England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes, who is placed at number 11. Meanwhile, the best all-rounder in Test cricket Jason Holder, the West Indies skipper, is at number eight. Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza and Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews hold the last two spots.
