Star Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib-al-Hasan is on the verge of a unique record as he needs two more wickets to be the leading wicket-taker across all the three formats for his country.

Shakib is already the highest wicket-taker for his country in Test cricket and T20 international cricket with 147 wickets and 65 wickets respectively. In the One Day International (ODI) format, Abdur Razzaq is at the top with 207 wickets, whereas Shakib has 206 wickets against his name.

Shakib will be licking his lips as Bangladesh is heading towards a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, starting on Sunday. Two more wickets to his name will make him the only man in world cricket to be his country’s most successful bowler in all three forms of the game.

“I won’t say or I can’t say how many wickets he would take before retiring from the cricket but he stands a good chance to break several records,” Razzak, the current ODI leading wicket taker told The Independent.

“His dedication and hunger make him an absolute favourite to make so many records for Bangladesh. I believe he is going to set such a benchmark which would be tough to emulate. The rate at which he is progressing is unbelievable. He is quite a genius and Bangladesh is lucky to have a player like him,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza has 204 wickets and he will be a threat to Shakib achieving the milestone.

Bangladesh ODI Squad: Mashrafe Mortaza (c), Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mosaddek Hossain, Nasir Hossain, Taijul Islam, Shafiul Islam and Rubel Hossain.
