Shakib Al Hasan misses the team's photo session; BCB President not pleased
He had already missed the team's practice session ahead of the Ireland tri-series and World Cup to play in the IPL.
Ace Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan hasn’t got to play many games for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019. Thanks to a crowd of top overseas players, Shakib found it difficult to consistently find a place in the playing XI. However, the 32-year-old decided to stay back in the tournament to make use of the opportunity that could come his way following the exits of a number of players for their national duties.
Shakib, who has played three IPL games this season, also sought permission from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to carry on with the IPL instead of joining his national team’s camp for an upcoming tri-series in Ireland. Though he was given the nod, Shakib now has landed in yet another controversy and it is about him skipping the team’s photo session for the upcoming ICC World Cup.
BCB president didn’t know Shakib is back in Bangladesh
BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon was not happy with Shakib Al Hasan’s actions and called his absence from the team session as a disappointing one. The BCB, however, decided against taking any action on this just ahead of Bangladesh’s departure for Ireland and the World Cup on May 1. “There is no question (to tolerate it) but the team is going to leave the country day after tomorrow, so I don’t want to tell anything regarding this,” he was quoted as saying by Cricfrenzy.
Members of Bangladesh’s World Cup-bound team had their final practice session on Monday following which the skipper, Mashrafe Mortaza, addressed the media. Bangladesh will play their inaugural match at the World Cup against South Africa at the Oval on June 2.
“It’s really disappointing since there was a team photo session. When I came here I called him (Shakib) over his phone. He said that he is in Bangladesh and was in Mirpur but had gone home. I, however, didn’t know when he came back to the country from India. He said he will meet me at night,” Papon added.
Papon also said that he asked the team management whether Shakib knew about the photo session and they said he did. It added to the BCB president’s disappointment even more.
