Back in January, Bangladesh all-round cricketer Shakib Al Hasan developed a finger injury owing to which he had to miss quite some amount of cricket for his national team. The 2018 Asia Cup is currently underway and prior to the tournament, his participation was under the clouds. However, the Jessore-born cricketer eventually took the field for the Tigers.
He did reasonably well with the ball, but couldn’t quite step up with the bat. In the meantime, on the eve of Bangladesh’s last Super 4 match against Pakistan at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, it was learned that he had to return home as he had aggravated the injury. Khaled Mahmud, the team manager mentioned that his finger had swelled up way too much.
Shakib assures his supporters
Previously, the Tigers lost opening batsman Tamim Iqbal was ruled out owing to an injured wrist and Shakib’s injury was expected to weaken their lineup. However, the team soared above expectations and comprehensively brushed aside the Men in Green by 37 runs. Moreover, they also qualified for the final against India at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Meanwhile, the experienced campaigner updated his supporters about his injury. He posted a picture on Instagram where he was seen lying in a hospital bed with his left-hand tied. He also shared a message in his mother tongue Bengali and expressed his desire to take the field for Bangladesh at the earliest.
Here’s the translation- “When I left home after the finger injury, even then I didn’t think that I have to encounter such a scenario. After returning home, my hand swelled up and pained terribly. Hence I got admitted to a hospital and underwent a surgery. There was an infection inside my finger and a lump of 60-70 mm had to be operated out. Your wishes have helped me get out of trouble, but I need to get another surgery done. Hopefully, I will recover early and be able to represent Bangladesh.”
