Shakib Al Hasan unlikely to get NOC for CPL 2021
At the time of the CPL, Bangladesh are in line to play international fixtures.
Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh all-rounder, is unlikely to get a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the 2021 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The Magura-born cricketer, earlier, returned to the Jamaica Tallawahs, for whom he played in the 2016 and 2017 editions of the T20 tournament. In fact, in 2016, he won the CPL with the Tallawahs.
The upcoming CPL is set to be played from August 28 to September 19 in St Kitts and Nevis and Bangladesh are expected to have a chock-a-block schedule. The Tigers are in line to host Australia followed by England and New Zealand.
BCB in two minds about Shakib Al Hasan’s NOC
Akram Khan, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cricket operation chairman, talked about fielding full-strength squads for the high-profile series. Khan, also a former Bangladesh cricketer, stated that the board is yet to take a decision on Shakib’s NOC.
“We have not taken any decision about it (NOC for CPL). When the time comes we can take a decision in this regard. We certainly want to play against them with our full-strength squad,” Khan was quoted as saying in Cricbuzz on Saturday, May 29.
Going forward, the board is expected to add a few clauses to the national cricketers’ contracts and hence, Khan’s wish might not get fulfilled. It’s been learned that the BCB will give the cricketers an option to state their availability for Bangladesh before taking part in foreign domestic leagues.
The BCB started contemplating adding the clause after Shakib Al Hasan skipped the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka to play in the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL). Nazmul Hasan Papon, the BCB chief, was of the opinion that they don’t need any panic at the last moment.
Shakib recently played in the ODI series against the Lankans in Mirpur and could only manage 19 runs with scores of 15, 0, and 4. In the meantime, Shakib talked about making amends after the shoddy performances.
“Of course, my expectations weren’t fulfilled during the series. But I have to ensure that these things won’t happen next and it’s very important,” Shakib had said. Shakib is currently the join-highest wicket-taker for the Tigers in ODIs with 269 wickets.
