Shakib Al Hasan's mother-in-law passes away

The last few months have been really tough for Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. He had skipped the away Test series against New Zealand due to personal reasons. While Shakib did play the three-match ODI series against South Africa, he could not be available for the ongoing Test series and had to fly back home.

Now, it has been reported that Shakib Al Hasan’s mother-in-law has passed away. Apart from that, other members of his family including his kids were also unwell, which had forced him to leave the South Africa series midway and fly back home to be with his family. According to a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official, the southpaw was granted leave from the tour on humanitarian grounds.

Shakib’s mother-in-law was undergoing treatment for cancer

According to reports in The Daily Star, Shakib Al Hasan’s mother-in-law Nargis Begum breathed her last at around 2:40 am on Friday, April 8. “She was undergoing treatment for cancer at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka”.

Meanwhile, the all-rounder’s second daughter Errum Hasan, alongside his youngest son Eyzah Al Hasan was down with Pneumonia and had to be hospitalized. Even his mother Shirin Reza also had to be admitted due to a heart infection.

Shakib had a good series against South Africa. He scored 95 runs in two ODIs and remained unbeaten on 18 in the final game. He got out for a duck in the second game but it was his outstanding knock in the opener that laid the foundation for a historic series win. The 35-year-old scored 77 runs from 64 deliveries including seven fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 120.31.

His knock propelled Bangladesh to a match-winning total of 314/7 and they came out on top by 38 runs. The veteran all-rounder was adjudged the Player of the Match for his superb batting performance. With no IPL contract this time, Shakib Al Hasan would be hoping to spend some time with his family and get back to the cricket field.
