Shane Warne asks KL Rahul to match fire with fire against James Anderson
The 26-year-old hasn't had the best of Test series thus far.
Right-handed batsman KL Rahul hasn’t had the best of Test series thus far on English soil. He was selected in the national team after his stupendous performances in the Indian Premier League. Thereafter, he performed as per expectations in the limited-overs series against England in which he also notched a stupendous century in the opening T20I at Old Trafford in Manchester.
Nevertheless, with 94 runs in three matches at an average of 15.67, he hasn’t quite been able to translate his form in white-clothing cricket. On all six instances, he fell prey to the fast bowlers. The Karnataka-born batter has also stuttered against James Anderson, the leading wicket-taker in the series. In the second Test at Lord’s, Rahul was dismissed by Anderson on both occasions.
Warne’s words of wisdom for Rahul
In the meantime, Shane Warne, the former Australian bowler, asked Rahul to tread the attacking approach against the speedster in order to ruffle him. “The one thing I would love to see is KL Rahul going after James Anderson,” Warne was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI).
“If I was part of the Indian management, I would like to tell Rahul to try and take Jimmy down. Jimmy is fantastic in these conditions and if he has his tail up, it’s difficult to deal with him. The better the bowler, the more aggressive you have to be,” he added.
The 26-year-old came to bat at number in the first Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham and flattered to deceive. He was promoted to open the batting in the next encounter at the Home of Cricket after Shikhar Dhawan was left out, but it didn’t turn around Rahul’s fortunes.
The batsman looked decent in Nottingham with scores of 23 and 36, however, was unable to carry on. He would be desperate to get a substantial score under his belt in the next two contests at The Ageas Bowl and Kennington Oval respectively.
