Shane Warne loses his driving license in United Kingdom

Australia’s Spin Wizard, Shane Warne has been stripped of his driving license in the United Kingdom (UK) after being caught speeding in a rented luxury car on multiple occasions. During his stay in the country, the veteran has as many as 18 penalties on his permit, despite 12 being the legal limit in the UK.

Even after being caught speeding six times on the road, Warne was allowed to continue driving during his stay in London for covering the English Cricket season for Sky Sports as his legal team had launched an appeal in July stating that any loss of his license would amount to ‘significant hardship’ for the King of Spin.

However, a report by Herald Sun suggests that the spinner can no longer drive the car in the UK as he lost his driving license after his lawyers suddenly dropped his appeal. In August 2018, Shane was captured by a stationary speed camera driving a rented Jaguar at a speed of 75km/h in a 64km/h zone in Kensington.

The Judge had condemned Shane Warner’s driving habits

After an inquiry, the authorities came to the conclusion that the 51-year-old has exceeded the allowed limit for being caught in the case of overspeeding and ordered him to pay a $3,400 fine along with revoking his driving license after appearing at the Wimbledon Magistrates court last year.

During the sentencing last year, Deputy District Judge Adrian Turner had condemned the cricketer’s driving habits. His infringements occurred between April 2016 and April 2017, totaling 15 penalty points over the 12 month period.

“The purpose of disqualification is to protect the public and to deter. Mr Warne has now committed six speeding offences, and it may be that none on their own are particularly serious. But this is a case which plainly calls for a disqualification period in excess of six months,” he had said.

Having lodged an appeal in July, Warne had opposed the revoking of his license. As a result, his license was restored until the appeal would be heard at the Kingston Crown Court on Friday night Australian time when his lawyers surprisingly withdrew the appeal.
