Shane Warne, Meg Lanning included in Queen's Birthday Honours list 2022
Lanning has been honoured as a Member (AM) of the General Division.
Due to their exemplary contribution to the field of cricket, the Australian duo of late Shane Warne and Meg Lanning becomes the latest addition to the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2022. The tragic death of spin legend Warne shook the world when he was found dead in his room in Thailand while holidaying back in March. However, he remains the most accomplished leg spinner in the world to date and has been recognized for his great achievements.
The Australia Women’s Captain, Lanning, has been honoured as a Member (AM) of the General Division in order to recognize her “significant service to women’s cricket at the elite level.” It is important to note that Lanning has been part of six World Cup-winning campaigns and has also been named as Women’s T20 player of the year (2014) and ODI player of the year in 2015.

“The late Shane Warne was honoured Officer (AO) of the General Division for distinguished service to cricket as a player, role model, and commentator, to the community through charitable initiatives, and for philanthropic contributions,” read a statement from CA as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Muriel Picton and Doug Walters awarded Members (AM) of the General Division
Talking further in this context, Muriel Picton, former Australia women’s Test skipper, and CA’s Hall of Fame inductee Doug Walters have also been honoured same as Lanning, Members (AM) of the General Division. The same has been given to acknowledge their significant service to the field of cricket at the elite level.
“The Queen’s Birthday Honours List provides us a chance to recognize and thank some of the incredibly important contributors right across our community. Cricket Australia congratulates everyone that has been recognized in the Queen’s Birthday Honour List 2022, especially those from across the cricket community,” the statement read further.
