Aaron Finch has been an integral part of the Australian limited-overs team for quite a while. However, he strained to stake his claim in the Test team. Recently, he got his maiden Test call-up against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and he didn’t disappoint. The 32-year-old racked up 181 runs in two matches at an average of 45.25 and with one half-century to his name.
The seasoned campaigner has now been selected to play the four-match Test series against India, which gets underway next month from December 6 at Adelaide Oval. He is currently playing the T20I series against India and is then scheduled to play in the Sheffield Shield, Australia’s first-class tournament, for Victoria in the match against Queensland, which starts from November 27.
A dissatisfied Warne
In the meantime, it has been learned that Victoria will stick with their opening pair of Marcus Harris and Travis Dean. The same means that Finch won’t get to open the batting. From the event’s perspective, Victoria have their reasons for the fact that they are at the top of the points table with three victories from four matches. Nevertheless, it has agitated former leggie, Shane Warne.
The retired spinner reckons that Finch should’ve been allowed to open at The Gabba in Brisbane as he would play the Test series against India. Warne reckons that it would’ve given Finch adequate match practice ahead of the high-profile series. Subsequently, he slammed Victoria left, right and centre.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “Just read @AaronFinch5 will not be opening in the shield game this week with Harris, but a week later they will open together for Aust against India. This is a disgrace by Vic & must be fixed before the game- can we please have common sense back into cricket in this country !,”
