Shane Warne's international career in numbers
Warne, with an astounding 1001 wicket tally, is second to only Muttiah Muralitharan in the all-time leading wicket-takers' list.
Australia legend Shane Warne’s untimely demise sent jitters in the cricketing spheres on March 4. The 52-year-old, as confirmed by his management in a brief statement, was found in an unresponsive state in his Thailand villa and is believed to have suffered a heart attack.
An undisputed legend of the sport, Warne witnessed countless highs in his bejewelled, illustrious career that spanned over a decade and a half. His Test debut came against India in Sydney in 1991-92 and was followed by his ODI debut against New Zealand in 1993.
Fondly called “Warney” by his peers, he was a part of Australia’s World Cup-winning team in 1999 and secured himself the Player of the Match award in the summit clash of the multi-team even against Pakistan.
Following an eventful international career that reaped him a whopping 1001 wickets, he plied his trade in the Indian Premier League and took his team Rajasthan Royals to a title in the inaugural edition in 2008. Warne stayed an active participant in the league until 2011 before joining his franchise as a coach. He later established himself as a successful commentator and analyst of the game.
